Long Range Excursion to Canning Stock Route and Carnarvon Range: August 2000

The spectacular 360° panorama (below) is near the summit of the Ingebong Hills, just north of Well No 6 on the Canning Stock Route, in Western Australia.

While making botanical collections and bird and reptile observations several sites of ancient aboriginal rock art were seen in these sandstone rocks.

The twenty seven members of the group had a wonderful excursion seeing a bounty of flora and fauna due to the season's good rains and experiencing many adventures in the diverse camp sites from the breakaway country in the Bar Smith Range to Bilyuin Pool on the headwaters of the Murchison River.

Long Range Excursion - Carnarvon Range: 21-31st August 1999

The Carnarvon Range is situated west of the Canning Stock Route near Well No. 6. Entry to the Carnarvon Range was via Marymia Station and the abandoned 1139 mile No. 1 Rabbit Proof Fence. Two night base camps were made near Virgin Springs in the northern section of the range, Serpents Glen in the south western section and at an area of extensive breakaways near Blue Hill to the south of the ranges. The Carnarvon Range and the Blue Hill breakaways have spectacular scenery. Wildflowers were at their best and there was interesting bird life. Return to Perth was via the Well No. 5 on the Canning Stock Route, Granite Peak Station, Wiluna and Sandstone. 16 passengers travelled on tour with the OKA - cost $1215 per person. 23 participants in 11 tag-a-long vehicles gave a donation of $80 per person.
